This morning I was awakened - not by a crying baby - by my smoke detector beeping because the battery needed to be changed. My smoke detector talks to me too. It told me: BEEP!!! Low batteries.
Every minute. And guess what? It continued to beep and talk to me even after I had pulled the battery out. It was very loud and it was 6:30am. I needed a 9V battery. Guess what? I didn't have one. And Tyson was at work. And Katie was waking up and wanted to be fed. And I wanted to cry because the beeping was so loud.
So what did I do? Text my freaking awesome neighbor, who I knew would be up, and asked if they happened to have any batteries. They didn't... but what did she do? Went to the store to buy me some and then brought them to my house.
So the moral of the story is: have good neighbors.
Oh, and change your stupid smoke detector batteries. So that you don't have it beeping at you when you want to be sleeping.

I hate it when that happens
I feel your pain! One of ours went out, so we changed the battery, and it STILL beeps!! AHHH
That is a great neighbor.
Oh my gosh, the ghost inside the detectors... AWFUL. I pulled the batteries out of one (this happened when I was like 16 and still living with my parents) and it still beeped, and so I wrapped it tightly up between many blankets. A few days later, I unwrapped it to see if it had died yet... nope... still beeping.
I definitely have a love/hate relationship with smoke detectors.
