Road Rash

In August 2003, I was in a car wreck. I was riding up to the University of Utah's bookstore to buy books with one of my guy friends. We were in his Tracker. Let me just tell you, Geo Tracker's do NOT do well in wrecks. They do even worse in roll-overs doing about 65MPH.

So let me just summarize by saying, we rolled AT LEAST three times on the freeway (I-215), while crossing all three lanes of traffic TWICE. When the car finally stopped moving, we were on the passenger side facing oncoming traffic (but luckily, we were completely on the shoulder). I had been holding to the handle above the door and my elbow was against the window - which was shattered. Anyway, after climbing out the back window we were quickly approached by Good Samaritan’s who stopped to see if we were dead. One lady came right up to me with a bunch of gauze and grabbed my elbow - pressing the gauze onto me. I didn't realize that I was bleeding and that my elbow was all torn up.

So, blah, blah, blah - the ambulance came, and I declined a ride. It was just my elbow (and my friend wasn't hurt at all). I finally met up with my mom at an Instacare near our house and the nurses proceeded to try to clean all of the rocks and glass out of my arm. Not my most comfortable half hour.

ANYWAY! The point that I am trying to make is that I have some wicked scars on my elbow and I also still have some road underneath those scars. Today - glass came out of my arm. Almost 7 years later and I got a little chunk of glass.

Please ignore my ugly elbow skin. No one has good looking elbow skin. There is the pink/red area where the glass came out and then the glass on the green sticky note. My mother was fascinated by it.

That is the craziest thing I've ever heard! The fact that you were in that serious of an accident and BOTH of you were okay...and glass just decided it was done being embedded in your arm flesh seven years later? Crazy! I'm glad you were okay. :)

CRAZY! I never knew that you were in an accident like that! What a blessing to have not even been hurt! WOW! CRAZY!

That is so weird. Did it just fall out or did you have to like... pop it like a zit or something? It reminds me of when I got my wisdom teeth out.... months afterwords, little chunks of tooth that had been 'removed' or so I thought kept surfacing and falling out of my gums.

I didn't know that you were in a crazy-A car crash. Good heavens, I am so glad you survived to tell the tale!
